ASIN

ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. Unlike the ISBN, it is generated automatically by Amazon at publication and only has value on that platform: it doesn't replace an ISBN for sales outside Amazon.

For a Kindle ebook, the ASIN is generally enough: Amazon doesn't require an ISBN for digital formats sold exclusively on its platform. An ISBN becomes necessary if the same book must also exist as a paperback or be distributed elsewhere.
